About Me:
I serve on the board for SMCSTL and plan the monthly events. I also develop new business for a well known staffing firm here in STL. I go by many names but the one you'll see most often is "JavaSTL." I will also answer to "Smart Guy" on rare occasion. I like helping people get their arms around social media solutions to help them better their interaction and marketing.

Just letting everyone know we're putting together something special to get this group back on the map. Stay tuned and mark your calenders off for May 21st!
I mentioned at the last SMCSTL get together that I have an idea for a topic. Actually, I have two related topics.
1) The use of social media by parents of children diagnosed with a disability as a type of "support group". My elder son, Zeke, is autistic and we (Julie and I) have been online since 1993 learning and connecting. Blogs, FaceBook, Twitter, etc are invaluable resources for parents to share their experiences and opinions. There are several St. Louis "autism parents" who blog, etc, that may be interested in sharing their experiences with the group.
2.) The use of social media by those with disabilities, especially those with autism. Autistic people have a very hard time with real-time, verbal communications, and social media tools help them overcome this challenge. To paraphrase an old saying, on the internet no one knows you're autistic. This one may be a bit more difficult to present with autistic bloggers, due to their communication challenges. But I think it would be of interest and value to the group to understand the power of these tools for those with autism, and other disabilities.
To read some blogs by people with autism, and some by parents of those with autism, check out the Autism Hub.
